my initial reaction to book blurb of Beast Master Team.

Death-by-Night.  The scourge taking out Arzor’s life,  Animal or human alike.  Reminds me of Chupacabra.  the Mexican beast of the night that many people claim exists and is responsible for many real world mutilations and killings of farm animals and pet animals.  Where’s the context for gaming?  That Death-by-Night can be fearsome.  That any beasties in the night are hidden by darkness and unknown.  In light of day maybe could be seen coming from a mile away on a flat plane or field.  But by night, pitch dark, can be only be seen much closer, a few feet or scarier yet, inches.  By then it is too late.  With dark tied to danger and a beast by night, well my Death-by-Night needs a name.  So I turn to the Latin.  Ater,  Atrus, Atrum.  Bless the internet and lookup capacities.  Ater Morbus.  Altrus Letum.  Atrum Excessum.  And then from those put the words through my naming engine.  see if can get the links to load up here in the blog.  OLE feature maybe.

alright gonna try the icon for Add Media if I can find it. holy crud it’s clumsy to get a list into word press from word.  Epic fail trying to use openoffice.  So a link to file somewhere.  But I have no storage.  Where is the add media icon from within a post?   There are two different editing interfaces and I ended finding the right one so links above.  How could this fuel a work flow?  Visual versus Text editing.

Thinking of doing the naming engine with vowel/consonant placement and get even more names to come out.

new mini project, 3 day deadline

A short series of inspirations from what I’m up to. Got a book from Goodwill store. Hope to use it as a flow of ideas and inspiration to either work into a literary exploration and a game ideas engine. So with those two goals in mind I begin. Also got a course pack mailer for greatest courses in the world. Writing is one of the courses. I bet if I rewrote some stuff past first draft status I would end up with something people would like to read, even pay to read.
What are novels and games after all than to pay someone to read or play something? Amazing that anyone would pay to read a book or play a game at all. But they do. And billions are made at it. My goal is to have money drop from it at some point. The real money aspect gives me some extra inspiration that the outer world values my work. Exchange of ideas with others is also satisfying in social and community ways.
So the book is: Beast Master Team by Andre Norton and Lyn McConchie. 2002.

Historical frame. First full swing of MMO emergence. 2000-2002. Don’t know how fast the book was written but good bean is that a year before publication for context. Right around 9/11 was part of the flow of this book so that may pop into the text I’m expecting but will see. In the gaming world of 2000-02 Everquest was ascending, WoW was thought of, and Entropia had just started. A Golden Age of MMO’s? Was Beast Master the television series still going? Yes it was. Ended in 2002. A have fuzzy memories of it. May get ahold of video for further inspiration if needed and if I have the energy.

playing entropia universe as my regular go to game.  popping mining probes to find ores as I feel they are the most profitable for me and are fun as I get to see a lot of the landscape with frequent trips into PA or Nea’s or BiG Industries land areas to socialize.  Unjoined from a society recently as the count of people was down to eight and none of them were active players as far as I know.  Entropia is really an on again off again sort of game where if the money’s not flowing the play’s not playing.  The free aspects such as sweating and fruit, stone, and dung finding can fund a huge upside if sweat is marketed correctly.  Auction prices on the lower end which is where most for free players are at.  The auction prices are volatile I’ve seen it described.  And they can be.  When you get 199% for $0.60 worth or 6 ped, then another of the same lot gets 297% or 1 ped worth  going for 3 ped, don’t know what to make of it.  For one it’s a huge difference.   I think the price discrepancy comes from the small amount and player budgets.  getting $1 or 10 ped per 1000 sweat and getting $3 or 30 ped per 1000 sweat can really jump start a free player’s budget.  Getting to that point with bootstrapping is still challenging.  Inpatience, as with most things in entropia, will cause a player to deposit.  And it’s not so bad to deposit as the money played smartly can last and last.  In fact I find myself without enough time to do the things I know are profitable.  So I keep grinding away knowing the ‘investment’ is growing even at a slow pace.

And that’s enough of my rambling log for now.  30 minutes of writing and 30 more to go.  hour of writing.  the hour of art is tough to keep churning though I ought to seek idea sources to get that done.  and what else to write about?

the hour of…

Seeing the Hour of Code commercials got me thinking of coding and then a few days later on an hour of whatever desired activity, (art, game play, and trading ranking among my favorite activities). I put way too much time into games at the expense of other activities. I am close to not worrying about balance anymore. Setting aside an hour to any activity doesn’t seem like much in the span of my 12 hour waking day. So I’ll likely move towards the other activities and blogging. I considered using a “logging” program that could go across devices. Calendar programs sort of do it but they are for future events. Evernote is also a possibility and could provide the proper flow I need to churn out my events and thoughts and random stuff all together.
Back to the hour of stuff. What can be done in an hour. I know with coding an hour is way too little. But some incremental progress can be seen. A complete functioning program or software tool on the other hand takes many hours and cannot usually be done solo. As many gaming projects tend to take up lots of time.
I think having a one hour limit on an activity and then making it due every day gives the proper urgency and deadline for work and play to be produced. So to cap off my first 20 minutes of an hour of writing,
the door’s always open
if you’re willing to step inside
The window’s good for jumping
when you want to stay alive
the roof’s good for slanting
when the rain comes down so hard
the house is built for expressing
the life that lives inside.

my current gaming activity past few days, game variety

in a lala land of gaming. chugging ahead in entropia, play everquest ii long enough to earn loyalty tokens
play diablo in 2 minute blocks and auction house checks and reprices. did a download to update WOW. may end up in that one. other gaming would be in metagames. book buying and selling. contemplating paying for trailblazer’s package with eq next and landmark. After all it’s only money. $100. small risk for where i’m at and the results of some of my more, out there, activities. Ah the pursuit of fun and money. Endless circles of ebb and flo.
Of course cycling seems to me to be the natural state of things. By making the most of each part of up and down, the interest, i can compound and find the 80/20 of what i want to do and what i am doing. I don’t play games to the point of exhaustion anymore. After an hour i take a 10 minute or more break, then back at it again for another hour. It seems 45 minutes is also a good stopping point. Keeps the activity fresh and snappy. For sessions that go over that
I can’t cope and end up taking long hiatus’s from the offending game. days worth out of world. But because i have had more than my fair share of fun, I keep coming back.
I was thinking of storytellers and storytelling earlier today. Reminescening on how a library children’s story teller captivated an audience of 20, mostly children but some adults who could learn a thing or two about what people like to hear and take an interest in.
I wonder if there’s any pop music based around mmo gaming?
I note references in pop culture to mmo’s on Big Bang Theory. Probably the most visible and known reference. But in music and particularly pop music it may be hard to find. Pop music crossed with mmo’s crossed with Farmville.
What would that look like? Speculation for later.

low info diet and mmo issues

Although the addition of new content via monthly patches was fun, it also caused a
number of problems due to Turbine’s constantly rolling over for the loudest players. They
nerfed their own game balance and then completely destroyed the in-game economy at
which point I left. Additionally, Turbine’s attitude towards exploiters was unbelievably
irresponsible to their larger player base — people who are utilizing in-game exploits should
be removed from the game to avoid incumbent issues (server crashes among them).
Overall, I felt that Turbine was incredibly disrespectful to the largest part of their
community while catering to the vocal few. [AC, f, 39]

vol 1-1
The quote from Daedaulus project got me thinking on D3’s move to eliminate auction houses. The disrespectful to the
largest part of their community while catering to the vocal few.

from vol 1-2, reasons to quit the game, boring and repetitive. this one happened to me in eq2 a while back and in Wow.
endless grinding to get somewhere. But i took on endless grinding in d3 and was perfectly fine for 900 hours till they
rescinded the auction house and my interest.

references to ‘the media’ always throw me off as too ambiguous and monolithic. It’s easy to point a finger and blame something. Being on a low information diet for crap i don’t care about shields me from most references to the media. however the mass opinion if it is that and not some tool
of the government or a corporation is something to consider. The low information diet keeps me going further as the media is wild, exaggerated and totally off base on most issues. No news is good news.

Destroying in-game economies is something i am concerned with as my financial fortunes are tied to in-game economies. I have learned a lot of auctioning and selling skills by playing mmo’s. All the tactics and strategies for making a buck off imaginary items.

Learning social skills within mmo’s i did almost by accident. It encourages me that people will come together and treat each well for common goals and purposes. My past doctor discovered the daedalus project before i did. I was unwilling to face my own issues until the past 2 years and finding the daedalus project helped me get to my issues and a hashtag back to my personal story and the many facets of psychology and social issues.

A mmo with a balanced economy that provides a great social venue and keeps the elements of most mmo’s would be desirable from my viewpoint. More opportunities on the level of a google or microsoft would be a game i look to be a part of or help create.
Finding my way away from the extreme left and extreme right are also concerns i want to overcome.

eq2 notes 10-15-13
planning on wrapping up premium and pay up to continue with premium.  but for today, some leveling and adventuring with
my wood elf wizard. Got caught by a installing sequence.  Adventures are slighty delayed.  Still better than the hours
before a paper and pen session. Played through some Klak Anon again.  Collected a loyalty point
by completing in-game goals.  Collected some coin on brokered items. Got that much closer to a krono and gold level play.
Fun filled adventure in the pursuit of the goals of good alignment.

some notes on eq2 as I adventure.
playing through the grind.  getting the rush of winning items.  having fun looking at the same sprites or 3d character models
as they are now known.  Because they aren’t really taken into my conciousness for the 100th or 1000th time.
I think 10,000th may be a little too much without at least some variety which eq2 delivers consistently.  EQ Next and Landmark
promise to deliver variety and excitement in spades.  So off to the grind and then I’ll see how I feel.  If I look too close
I may be gone.  Well, I played till a disconnect.  Was fun, I am taking on the denizens of Klak-Anon, and ran out of food
and drink.  So off to the broker to get some more of each.  Got a pretty good low cost <4 gold for both food and drink,
the sparkly stuff and some coffees.  The strange artefact of food and drink in a game brings some small meaasure of fun
to the ups and downs of fantasy adventure.

first time playing minecraft demo version

first impressions of minecraft, the sandbox mmo.

Minecraft adventures

got logged back in and playing the demo version

really bland, blow up grass, blocks of flowers, blocks of wood from who knows where, encountered a pig I quickly blew into the sea.  Beyond that not much to do.  The blocky nature doesn’t appeal to me.  May try and go through some things I could make.  The real reason I want to play, also some combat would be nice without having to wander so aimlessly for it.  Needs more clear directions to get done what I want done.  Inventory pickup is automated so that’s quick and convenient.  Finding interesting things to do is a problem.  Supposedly multiplayer but I haven’t linked up to a server yet.  Off to eq 2 or d3 or entropia.
