the hour of…

Seeing the Hour of Code commercials got me thinking of coding and then a few days later on an hour of whatever desired activity, (art, game play, and trading ranking among my favorite activities). I put way too much time into games at the expense of other activities. I am close to not worrying about balance anymore. Setting aside an hour to any activity doesn’t seem like much in the span of my 12 hour waking day. So I’ll likely move towards the other activities and blogging. I considered using a “logging” program that could go across devices. Calendar programs sort of do it but they are for future events. Evernote is also a possibility and could provide the proper flow I need to churn out my events and thoughts and random stuff all together.
Back to the hour of stuff. What can be done in an hour. I know with coding an hour is way too little. But some incremental progress can be seen. A complete functioning program or software tool on the other hand takes many hours and cannot usually be done solo. As many gaming projects tend to take up lots of time.
I think having a one hour limit on an activity and then making it due every day gives the proper urgency and deadline for work and play to be produced. So to cap off my first 20 minutes of an hour of writing,
the door’s always open
if you’re willing to step inside
The window’s good for jumping
when you want to stay alive
the roof’s good for slanting
when the rain comes down so hard
the house is built for expressing
the life that lives inside.
